Freelance Creative Technologist for Hire

I work with marketing and branding agencies as an embedded freelance creative technologist, building prototypes, games, apps, and interactive experiences for campaigns and client pitches.

With an MSc in Creative Technology and experience as a specialist in agency environments, I bridge the gap between creative vision and technical execution.

I’m available for on-site work or remote collaboration from Margate, Kent.

What is Creative Technology?

Creative technology sits at the intersection of design, engineering, and storytelling. It’s the practice of using code, hardware, emerging technologies, and creativity to craft experiences that surprise and delight audiences. As a creative technologist, I use my technical skills to solve creative problems – turning ambitious ideas into engaging experiences.

Beyond Traditional Development

A creative technologist is a specialist who combines technical development skills with creative thinking. While traditional developers may build to specification, a creative technologist participates in the creative process – contributing ideas, prototyping concepts, and solving problems that sit between design and engineering.

In agency settings, creative technologists are often brought in to help win pitches by building working demos and ensuring ambitious creative ideas are technically achievable.

From Idea to Prototype

As a creative technologist with dual creative-technical fluency I can sit in creative brainstorms, respond to creative briefs, present my ideas, and then build the prototypes that bring them to life.

Beyond the Screen

Creative technologists bring together software, hardware, and physical interaction. I work with agencies to design and build connected experiences using browser-based technology alongside custom electronics and microcontrollers.

Creative Technology Services

My creative technology work focuses on fast delivery for pitches, campaigns, and product launches. It spans digital and physical, from browser-based experiences to custom microcontroller hardware.

Rapid Prototyping

I build functional prototypes for mobile, desktop, and installations — bringing creative technology ideas to life quickly and effectively.

My prototyping portfolio includes mobile-friendly interactive 3D brand animations for a Sky pitch built with Three.js, and a hardware wireless controller for an Adidas product event built with Arduino and Unity.

Games & Interactive Experiences

I build browser games, physical installations, and interactive experiences that engage audiences and create memorable, on-brand experiences.

My games portfolio includes a web game for the Royal Marines that won a BIMA award in the Games category.

Web Native Apps

I build native iOS apps using Capacitor and web frameworks including React. These apps can be prototypes to validate an idea, internal tools, or fully-featured public apps that are published on the App Store.

Rapid Prototyping for Pitches

To help agencies win pitches I build functional prototypes that validate interaction design, prove technical feasibility, and give clients something real to experience. This is where a creative technologist adds real value – turning pitch concepts into tangible demonstrations.

Software Prototypes

I build interactive prototypes, typically built using React and viewed on web/iOS. These feature real navigation, working forms, and animated transitions, and are easily distributed for client presentations and internal reviews.

Hardware Prototypes

I build hardware prototypes to demonstrate technical feasibility using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, sensors, and APIs. I can get ambitious ideas into your client’s hands to prove they will work.

Technical Scoping for Creative Briefs

Before pitching, you need ideas that are technically feasible. I help agencies win, keep, and grow clients with immersive, on-brand responses to creative briefs and no-nonsense technical assessments. A creative technologist can spot problems early and suggest solutions that keep projects on track.

Feasibility Assessment

Is the creative idea technically possible? What are the constraints? I review briefs and provide honest assessments of what’s achievable within budget and timeline.

Architecture Planning

Technical architecture documents for complex builds. System diagrams, API specifications, hosting requirements. Give your client confidence that you’ve thought it through.

Build Estimates

Detailed time and cost estimates broken down by feature. Identify risks, dependencies and scope-creep triggers before the project starts.

Creative Technology Stack

Frequently Asked Questions

For creative technology work I usually work on a day rate, with competitive rates available on request. If project scope is known from the offset then I can provide project-based fees with agreed timescales, but due to the nature of these projects it can be difficult to estimate effort precisely. Every project is scoped individually based on complexity, platform requirements, and timeline.

It depends on complexity. Simple web prototypes can be ready in days. For a simple native app prototype with CI/CD pipeline setup allow for at least 2 weeks. Unreal Engine experiences or hardware prototypes require more time depending on scope. I provide realistic timelines during scoping — rush jobs are possible, but rushing may affect the level of polish.

For creative technology projects I can produce UX, rough designs and dashboards myself using frameworks. For more polished visual designs I can collaborate with your design team, or recommend a designer from my network.

No. All development is done by me personally, with no outsourcing or offshoring.

Yes. I’m available for on-site work at your office on a day rate or project basis. I also offer remote collaboration from my Margate studio, or hybrid arrangements with on-site days for key meetings and workshops. For on-site work outside London and the South East UK, transport and accommodation expenses may apply.

Yes. I have Professional Indemnity and Public Liability cover.
