Creative Technology

Rapid Prototyping

I build functional prototypes quickly for multiple platforms: web applications, Unreal Engine experiences, and physical computing with Arduino and Raspberry Pi. As a creative technologist, I prototype ideas fast so you can test, iterate, and validate before committing to full production — from browser-based demos to wireless hardware controllers.

Web Application Prototypes

Browser-based prototypes that demonstrate interaction design, prove technical concepts, and give stakeholders something real to experience. Creative technology prototyping with modern frameworks for speed and flexibility.

React Apps

Component-based prototypes with real state management, routing, and data fetching. Interactive experiences that feel like finished products. Hosted and shareable for client review.

WebGL & Three.js

3D experiences running in the browser. Product configurators, virtual environments, and immersive visualisations. No plugins or downloads required.

Real-Time Communication

WebSocket connections, live data updates, multiplayer interactions. Prototypes that demonstrate real-time functionality without backend complexity.

Unreal Engine Prototypes

High-fidelity 3D experiences for installations, VR, and interactive environments. Unreal Engine provides cinematic quality visuals and powerful Blueprint scripting for rapid creative technology iteration.

Real-Time 3D

Immersive 3D models, environments and interactive scenes – optionally controlled by sensors using physical computing.

Spatial Audio & Metasounds

Procedural audio systems, 3D positional sound, and audio that responds to interaction and events – including MIDI.

Unreal Engine VR / AR

I’m currently researching VR prototypes for headsets including Apple Vision, Meta Quest and Steam Vision, and AR prototypes for Apple Vision and Mobile Devices.

Physical Computing & Hardware Prototypes

Custom hardware prototypes using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers. Wireless controllers, sensor integrations, and physical interfaces — the kind of creative technology that connects digital and physical worlds.

Arduino & Microcontrollers

Custom sensors, actuators, and controllers. Button panels, motion sensors, environmental inputs. Hardware that triggers digital experiences or responds to software commands.

Raspberry Pi

Linux-based prototypes for kiosks, installations, and connected devices. Media playback, network communication, and GPIO control. Full computing power in a compact form factor.

Wireless Communication

Bluetooth, WiFi, and RF protocols for untethered hardware. Wearable controllers, remote sensors, and wireless triggers. No cables limiting where prototypes can operate.

Case Study: PREDATOR – Interactive Boot

For The Marketing Store (tms), I built a wireless controller for an Adidas campaign — a creative technology project that combined custom hardware with 3D visualisations.

A PREDATOR football boot acted as a wireless controller for an on-screen 3D animation, highlighting the innovative features of the PREDATOR boot while the boot was being inspected.

Custom Hardware

A battery-powered Arduino microcontroller with a gyroscope and wireless connectivity was created. It needed to be robust enough for public use at the event.

Wireless Optimisation

For ultra-low latency custom code was written to transmit gyroscope data as raw bytes to a receiver. This data was parsed by Unity to control the 3D animation.

Custom Software

Working alongside a 3D motion designer at the agency, we developed and optimised the 3D animation to work seamlessly with the wireless controller input.

Who Is This For?

Rapid prototyping and creative technology is right for:

  • Creative agencies needing working prototypes for client pitches
  • Innovation teams proving technical feasibility before full investment
  • Event producers building interactive installations with custom hardware
  • Product teams testing concepts with real users before production

Frequently Asked Questions

Web prototypes can be built in 1-2 weeks for simple concepts, 2-4 weeks for more complex interactions. Unreal Engine prototypes typically take 1-2 months depending on visual fidelity requirements. Hardware prototypes with Arduino or Raspberry Pi vary widely based on complexity — simple sensor integrations take days, while custom wireless controllers take several weeks.

Often, yes. Web prototypes built with React use the same technologies as production applications and can be refined incrementally. Unreal Engine prototypes can be polished into final products. Hardware prototypes are typically proof-of-concept — production hardware usually requires professional manufacturing, but the software and interaction design carries forward.

You receive the working prototype plus all source code and documentation. Web prototypes are deployed to a staging URL for testing. Hardware prototypes include the physical components. I also provide technical documentation covering architecture decisions, third-party dependencies, and recommendations for production development if you choose to continue.

Yes, I regularly partner with creative agencies to build pitch prototypes. As a freelance creative technologist, I can work to tight pitch deadlines, integrate with your creative team, and present alongside you if helpful.
